Atlanta’s moderate climate affords residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy a number of outdoor sports and activities year round. Golf is particularly popular in the region, and there are several fine courses to try near the Dunwoody/Perimeter Mall area.
The North Fulton Golf Course, located within Chastain Park, has been consistently rated Atlanta’s top public golf course. Chastain Park is the largest city park in Atlanta and is located on 268 acres in the northern part of the city. The golf course entrance is at 216 West Wieuca Road. The 18-hole, par 71 course opened in 1937. It was designed by Chandler Egan, Bobby Jones, and Walter Hagen. Because it is a public course, the rates are among the most reasonable in the Atlanta area. Many of the fairways offer scenic views of the Buckhead skyline. Fairways and greens are Bermuda grass, and the course yardage is 6,570 yards from the longest tees. Although there are a few more difficult holes, most of the course is suitable for the average golfer.
Steel Canyon Golf Club (formerly Blue Heron) is located at 460 Morgan Falls Road in nearby Sandy Springs, Georgia. It is an 18-hole par 61 executive golf course. There are 12 par 3s, 5 par 4s, and 1 par 5 hole. The course was recently renovated, with newly sodded Bermuda greens. Rates are very reasonable.

· Weekends 18 holes with cart- $35
· Weekends 18 holes walking- $30
· Twilight rates available
Steel Canyon is a fun course for a quick round or for players who are learning the game. There is a lighted practice facility with driving range, putting green, and chipping green.
Heritage Golf Links (formerly Celebrity Golf Club) is located at 4445 Britt Road in nearby Tucker, Georgia. This semi-private course offers 27 holes of golf. The course terrain is rolling, and a large lake frames many of the holes. The greens are bent grass. Practice facilities include a lighted driving range, putting green, and chipping green. Green fees are as follows:
· Monday-Thursday rates for 18 holes are $45.
· Friday-Sunday and holiday rates for 18 holes are $55.
· Monday-Thursday rates for 9 holes are $30.
· Friday-Sunday and holiday rates for 9 holes are $35.
· Twilight and Senior rates available
The Dunwoody/Perimeter Mall area is located off Atlanta’s north perimeter at I-285 and GA 400. This busy area of Atlanta is close to area attractions and is a popular place to stay. Visitors to the area may enjoy a round of golf at one of these popular nearby courses.
