  • Giants’ Angel Rondon: Claimed by Giants

    Rotowire

    Jul 13, 2022

Rondon was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Wednesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Rondon was designated for assignment by St. Louis last week but will find a spot on the Giants’ 40-man roster. He’s been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento to begin his time with his new organization. The right-hander posted a 4.04 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 49 innings over 18 appearances (five starts) at Triple-A Memphis to begin the year.

  • Cardinals’ Angel Rondon: Designated for assignment

    Rotowire

    Jul 8, 2022

Rondon was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Friday.

Rondon has made just one big-league appearance this season, throwing five scoreless innings of relief against the PIrates back in late May. He’s spent most of the season with Triple-A Memphis, where he owns a 4.04 ERA and a 15.3 percent walk rate across 49 innings.

  • Cardinals’ Angel Rondon: Optioned after long-relief outing

    Rotowire

    May 23, 2022

The Cardinals optioned Rondon to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Rondon’s demotion comes one day after he was called up from Memphis to provide St. Louis with a multi-inning option out of the bullpen for Sunday’s series finale with the Pirates. The 24-year-old right-hander ended up seeing more usage than expected in the Cardinals’ 18-4 win, as he was needed in long relief after starter Steven Matz lasted just four pitches before checking out of the contest due to a shoulder injury. Rondon proceeded to strike out four while blanking the Pirates over five innings en route to collecting his first career MLB win. Matz is set to undergo an MRI on Monday and could wind up on the injured list, but at least for the short term, the Cardinals decided that Rondon’s spot on the active roster was better used for another player. Even if Matz’s shoulder issue results in an IL stint, the Cardinals won’t need to replace him in the rotation until May 30, at which point Rondon or Matthew Liberatore could be called up from Triple-A if needed to fill in as St. Louis’ fifth starter.

  • Cardinals’ Angel Rondon: Picks up win Sunday

    Rotowire

    May 22, 2022

Rondon (1-0) allowed a hit and three walks while striking out four in five scoreless innings to earn the win in Sunday’s game against the Pirates.

Rondon was called up by the Cardinals prior to Sunday’s game, and he was effective as a long reliever after starter Steven Matz (shoulder) was removed after throwing just four pitches. Rondon threw 86 pitches and picked up his first major-league win while holding the Pirates scoreless. Matz will receive an MRI to determine the extent of his injury, but Rondon will be a candidate to fill a rotation role if Matz requires a trip to the injured list.

  • Cardinals’ Angel Rondon: Optioned to Triple-A

    Rotowire

    Jun 15, 2021

The Cardinals optioned Rondon to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

The move was to make space for Kwang Hyun Kim (back), whom the Cardinals activated from the injured list Tuesday. Rondon delivered two scoreless relief appearances after being recalled June 5, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him return to the big-league club in the future for valuable bullpen depth.

  • Cardinals’ Angel Rondon: Recalled by Cardinals

    Rotowire

    Jun 5, 2021

Rondon will be recalled by the Cardinals on Saturday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Rondon began the year with Triple-A Memphis and posted a 5.32 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 23.2 innings across five appearances (four starts). Although the right-hander served mainly as a starter in the minors, he’ll likely make his major-league debut out of the bullpen.

  • Cardinals’ Angel Rondon: Added to 40-man roster

    Rotowire

    Nov 19, 2020

Rondon’s contract was selected by the Cardinals on Thursday.

Rondon spent the 2020 campaign at the Cardinals’ alternate training site, but he failed to make his major-league debut during the shortened season. He’ll now join the 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. The 22-year-old posted a 3.21 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 115 innings at Double-A Springfield in 2019.

  • Cardinals’ Angel Rondon: Heading to alternate camp

    Rotowire

    Jul 8, 2020

Rondon was added to the Cardinals’ 60-man roster pool and will report to the alternate camp in Springfield, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Rondon spent 2019 at Double-A Springfield and had a strong season with a 3.21 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 112:42 K:BB over 115 innings. The 22-year-old is likely a longshot to see the majors in 2020 since he’s heading to the alternate site, but his inclusion in the 60-man pool could be significant for his development with the cancellation of the minor-league season.
